Just call me J-LO

May I start by saying, GOD IS AMAZING!! He works in our lives in ways we can't see and then all the sudden- BAM. We see them. I got a call about 2 weeks ago with a job offer to be a wedding coordinator! I have been praying and searching for a part-time job that would be flexibly kind to a new mommy. Finally when I had given up, the phone rang and there it was. I am so astounded at this amazing Father we serve. Although I have known His goodness my whole life, I am still pleasantly surprised and humbled when He continues to shower His blessings! I will be beginning this new venture in a few weeks with my first wedding being on Valentine's Day. So if you live in the area or just want to get married in the beautiful Grand Valley (haha) CALL ME! :)

My baby is all of the sudden a walker...

Mr. Britton is OFFICIALLY walking like a crazy walking fool. He took his first steps (without falling) this evening with a very happy and proud grandma and grandpa watching, while weaving in and out of two black dog obstacles. Once he figured it out, there was NO stopping him. He walked and walked and explored the house, turning around to make sure someone was near-by and plopping on his little diaper-clad butt every once in a while...My heart is so full- and so sad! My baby is growing up so quickly, which is so fun and wonderful to watch, but also makes part of me long for the days when he slept 22 hours on my tummy, when I could lay him down in one spot with a dot on the wall to keep him entertained for an hour, when he snuggled and needed me so much all the time... but I am thrilled that he is advancing and growing and loving life; he is healthy and smart and beautiful and we are so very blessed to have him!

A big night for Mr B...

Tonight was one of those nights I wish I had a camera crew following us around... Britton took his "first steps" unassisted! He was walking back and forth between Scott and I while holding our hands, and then all the sudden he let go, took 4 choppy little steps and fell forward into Daddy's waiting arms. I felt tears fill up my proud Mommy eyes, realizing how quickly my baby is growing up! Lucky Grandma got to witness this blessed event, as did Chloe and Joey, who seemed not to care much. Also tonight, we lowered Britton's crib mattress since he has been pulling up in the mornings, and I removed the bumper pad after hearing how I used to use mine as a step stool when I was a baby. About five minutes after we put him to bed, we heard his panicked screams over the sound of the Nuggets game. When I raced into his room I saw him laying on his tummy with both legs sticking straight out-- out through the rails of his crib! Poor baby... So he got to stay up past bedtime and get extra cuddles from Grandma and Grandpa while Mommy reattached the bumper in hopes that my little walker is not quite yet a little climber!

Old White Women for Obama to the rescue

"I've been an outdoorsman for 40+ years and I can tell you it's NOT going to rain..." the joking words of my father slapped him in the head in the form of zillions of little raindrops today as our walk was cut short. While hurrying through the rain trying to get back to the house, a car pulled up alongside us and a nice little lady offered us an umbrella. She handed it to us and then sweetly asked, "Are you all registered to vote?" ha...I knew there had to be a catch! Only then did I notice the bumper stickers all over the back of her snazzy little hybrid car, "Old White Women for Obama!" We kindly brushed off her political advances, thanked her for the umbrella, and hustled along in the rain to the warm comfort of a small coffee shop that just HAPPENED to be along the path to home. I can say it whole-heartedly (today at least), thank you, Obama supporters. :)

Stinking ears.

Poor Mr Britton is stuck with an ear infection...still. Seriously, if your kiddo is sick, please don't take them out and about! Poor little guy had not been sick until that fateful night of Bible study when he caught some nasty virus in the nursery and has been fighting this little cold/ear infection ever since. As a mother it angers me that people are thoughtless and now my poor baby has to suffer. Grrr....I guess back to the doctor we'll go Monday morning. Grrr again.

The beginning of football season...

It's that time of year again-- football season! Scott is super excited this year, because we recently purchased a TV (that is almost as wide as I am tall) specifically for the purpose of bringing the NFL and college football league (what is college football called, anyway?) into our living room. And for those games we'll miss because we're out of the house, DVR to the rescue! Britton's fall wardrobe has grown the past few weeks, as it was not complete in lacking Broncos and Sooners attire for this blessed season. I stocked up on chips and Queso ingredients to be made in our new football-shaped Crock pot. The fridge is stocked with sodas and sweet tea for those Southern fans... we're ready, football season.

The great carseat extravaganza...

Mr Britton is now 17 lbs- which means that combined with his infant carseat, carrying him means lugging around 30+ lbs. I can't do it anymore (I'm a weenie) so we've been shopping around for a convertible seat that stays in the car. We've narrowed it down to a Britax- they are made in the USA (WOO HOO!) and have the highest safety ratings of all the carseats. They are also the most expensive, but we're willing to spend a little more to ensure that Britton is safe. One of our choices can hold a child up to 40 lbs and the other up to 65... The 65 pounder is more expensive but it will last longer, but will he really want to be in a carseat when he's 5 or 6? Does he really need to be? And what if by some crazy chance (haha) by then we have another baby who will be in need of a carseat? And what about colors? The interior of my car is gray (kind of yuck) but the seat cover I like best is tan with little brown swirls. If you know me at all you'll know what a problem this poses for me-- as I am OCD about things matching! But I won't always have that car, so... Thus my confusion. I have spent weeks now reading reviews and blogs about it, but if anyone has experienced this kind of nightmare, please share your thoughts as I am about to go crazy.

Growling baby...

Britton's latest vocal discovery is a deep, throaty growl that sounds a bit like a demon-child. We're pretty sure he's going to strain his vocal cords, but he doesn't seem to mind! He growls when he's happy, when he can see that someone else is eating, or when he just wants to get our attention. He growls at us, at strangers, and at his toys. He has yet to growl directly at Chloe, but I am curious if she will reciprocate the action!
